Sheffield Wednesday were in for the Rotherham United midfielder, Will Vaulks, reports the BBC’s Andy Giddings.
But Giddings understands Vaulks will instead undergo a medical at Wednesday’s Championship rivals, Cardiff City, upon his return from holiday next week.
Cardiff are said to have agreed an initial fee of £2.1million for the Wales international, who could eventually cost them £3.5million – although his former club, Falkirk, are also due a cut.
Understand #rufc Will Vaulks will undergo a medical at #CCFC next week when he returns from a holiday now that the transfer fee and wages have been agreed. Multiple sources say #swfc were also in for him. 1/2

Hearing #rufc Vaulks transfer fee could rise to £3.5 million, after an initial £2.1 up front. Falkirk will also get there stake as part of a sell on clause. Good deal for all concerned. 2/2

Vaulks’ position is one in which Sheffield Wednesday are expected to strengthen in the summer transfer window, having seen Josh Onomah return to Tottenham Hotspur and released David Jones and Almen Abdi.
But it appears alternative options must now be pursued by the Owls manager, Steve Bruce, and his team.

Vaulks’ arrival at Rotherham came just weeks after the departure of Bruce’s now Cardiff counterpart, Neil Warnock, from the New York Stadium.
Sheffield Wednesday fans – who should the Owls now target with Vaulks’ seemingly off the table?
