Barry Bannan has taken to social media to share a photo of him supporting his former Sheffield Wednesday teammate.
Barry Bannan has spent almost a decade at Sheffield Wednesday and has seen many stars come and go, making a long list of friends along the way.
The Owls captain is obviously highly thought of at Hillsborough and already saw a number of his current teammates make an appearance at his recent charity event to support him, while he has also shown his support for his teammates too.
One player who he clearly grew a strong friendship with his Steven Fletcher, who spent four years in Sheffield from 2016 to 2020.
The pair played some brilliant football together in the Championship, with both scoring a combined total of 45 goals and providing 39 assists across those four seasons.
While Bannan has since remained at Wednesday, Fletcher went onto play for Stoke City, Dundee United and now Wrexham.
The 37-year-old has made only nine starts in League Two, but has racked up eight goals and has helped the Welsh outfit to third in the table.

While Fletcher had only started one of Wrexham’s previous six games in the fourth tier, Bannan showed his support for his former teammate and travelled to Doncaster yesterday as they battled it out at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The Wednesday midfielder posted an Instagram story of the pitch from the away end with the caption: “Go on the boy.”
Fletcher made a 29 minute cameo as Wrexham were beaten 1-0 by Doncaster, who sit 14th in League Two.
The Star journalist Alex Miller also shared his delight at a Bannan – Fletcher reunion, writing on X: “Love owt like this me – Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan at Donny watching his old pal and ex-Owl Steven Fletcher tonight. That peak Bannan/Fletch combo.”
Bannan needs to show his support for his current teammates now
Maybe not at 37 years old, but Steven Fletcher is a player Sheffield Wednesday could really do with right now.
The forward ended the 2018/19 season and the 2019/20 season as the Owls’ top scorer, while he netted a total of 38 goals in all competitions.
While Bannan doesn’t quite bag goals and assists like he used to, his support and encouragement for the younger players will be important in succeeding in these final stretch of games.
The midfielder clearly had quite the influence on previous teammates such as Fletcher, and now he can be just as important as Danny Rohl in guiding this team to safety.
