Sheffield Wednesday have today loaned George Byers to League One hopefuls Blackpool.
Byers, 27, joins Blackpool on loan until the end of the season.
The Scot will be looking to secure a second League One promotion in as many seasons with his new club currently sitting in 8th place of the League One table, and four points outside the top six.
Byers drops back down to League One after quickly falling out of favour under Danny Rohl; Byers had featured 22 times in the Championship with one goal and one assist, but he’s not featured in any of the last five now.
And after his loan move to Blackpool was confirmed earlier in the day, Sheffield Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan took to Instagram with this parting message:

Byers’ exit is a surprising one; he remains a quality player and he’s still at a good age too, but he could rarely finish a game under Rohl and looked as though he quickly fell out of favour after a change in shape.
Rohl went from a midfield three to a two, with three in front of the two holding midfielders, so it might have been difficult for Byers to regain his spot in the XI.
But he shone in League One last season, scoring six and assisting three more as he helped lift the Owls out of League One, so it looks like a very good capture for Blackpool.
And if Byers can impress with the Seasiders then he may well earn himself a new Sheffield Wednesday deal ahead of his contract expiry this summer.
If not then he’ll certainly put himself in the shop window and there should be no shortage of suitors should he become a free agent at the end of this season.
Sheffield Wednesday are back on the road this weekend with a short trip to Huddersfield Town, for what is a real crunch match at the bottom of the Championship table.
