Barry Bannan has now issued a desperate plea to Sheffield Wednesday fans ahead of tomorrow’s match.
Sheffield Wednesday will host Birmingham City tomorrow night, as they look to end a run of six games without a win.
Tony Mowbray’s side sit in 19th place in the Championship table and have picked up three wins, a draw and two defeats in all competitions since the 60-year-old was appointed manager.
The Owls now sit eight points from safety and could be even further if Huddersfield Town caused an upset against Southampton this weekend.
Danny Rohl‘s side could be in huge trouble if they can’t get back to the winning ways that saw the German nominated for December’s Manager of the Month award.
Barry Bannan has now pleaded with supporters to help them out against Birmingham City.
In his programme notes (as per The Star), the captain said: “I know we have new players who have come in but the majority were here last season. I know that is in the past but our character was questioned last season and look what happened.
“We need to all join up and come together, people writing us off, negativity, all that kind of thing is normal where we are in the league but there is a long, long way to go… We need to stick together and when we do that, we can create an atmosphere and good feeling here.
“Friday is massive – all the games are huge now. We are the first ones to play this weekend, it’s live on Sky and I’m looking forward to it. There is no time for excuses, it’s about rolling your sleeves up and getting back out there.”
Do Sheffield Wednesday need a miracle?
Sheffield Wednesday will still have 15 matches left after tomorrow’s meeting with the Blues, but a Huddersfield Town win over Southampton could mean they would need a miracle to escape the bottom three.
The Owls still have the likes of Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Norwich to play, while a final run-in of Norwich, Stoke, Blackburn, West Brom and Sunderland is hardly easy-going.
Danny Rohl has already transformed his team once, so it’s certainly not off the cards, but tomorrow’s match could be a real six-pointer for them.
If Sheffield Wednesday could pick up a similar run to December then they could even be looking to catch up with Birmingham, who are nine points ahead.
