Sheffield Wednesday parted ways with Xisco Munoz last night.

Sheffield Wednesday’s poor start to the 2023/24 Championship campaign sees them in last place of the table, and without a win in their opening 10 games of the season.

And it’s now led to Munoz’s sacking; the Spaniard was coming under increasing pressure and criticism from fans, with his team selection and tactics proving to be flawed.

But despite Munoz’s shortcomings at Sheffield Wednesday, club captain Barry Bannan took to social media to thank the Spaniard for his efforts.

Bannan posted:

And Wednesday teammate Josh Windass reacted, simply adding: 💯

What next for Sheffield Wednesday?

Well, a new manager is obviously the aim, and Dejphon Chansiri has the October international break coming up, so there’s plenty of time.

And it seems like Chansiri’s timing of the sacking is calculate; it took a while to bring in Munoz and so sacking him before the break gives the Owls an extra weekend to look for their new boss.

Whoever comes in though, Bannan and his senior teammates need to show great leadership and experience to get things right on the pitch.

It’s been a tough start for everyone but the likes of Bannan and Windass remain important players, and Bannan’s class always shines through, as seen in his post.

Up next for the Owls is a game vs Huddersfield Town this weekend.
