New Sheffield Wednesday signing Bambo Diaby has explained how excited he is to have the number five shirt. The centre-back is back in contention for the Owls after missing Friday’s game through suspension.
Wednesday play Stockport County in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night. It looks like a great opportunity for Xisco Munoz to rotate his squad and fans might get a glimpse of Diaby.

Hillsborough was rocking on Friday night. Southampton ran out 2-1 winners after a late Che Adams goal but it was a sound performance to say that Wednesday boss Munoz has made some changes.
Now, it’s back to cup football for the Owls. They will hope to progress in the competition against the Hatters who also suffered defeat on the opening day of the season.
Diaby is buzzing with his new squad number. The Lou Bega classic ‘Mambo Number Five’ was clearly in the thoughts of the supporters and the defender is pleased to take the number.

The player told the Wednesday YouTube channel: “Yes, yes, of course. I came here and the first day they asked me and I said I wanted number five. I was told that all the supporters wanted me to have number five but I think I was more excited than the supporters.”
Diaby happy to wear number five for Wednesday
The 25-year-old could prove to be a very exciting signing for Wednesday. He has experience in the second tier and he could be a player that will give his all.
The Owls will have to adapt quickly to the Championship. New signings will need to adapt quickly and perhaps Diaby will be one of the newbies to get a run out tomorrow.

Diaby has sparked a bit of humour with his choice of squad number. The prospect of him playing with number five on his shirt will surely see fans flock down to the club shop to get it printed on their own jersey.
The challenge for Diaby is to ensure he’s still known for his performances on the pitch. He won’t want to become a comedy act and hopefully, he can prove himself very quickly.
