A recent club update from Sheffield Wednesday has sparked an angry reaction from some fans.
Sheffield Wednesday recently revealed that the club had entered into ‘strategic partnerships’ to bring a brand new, state-of-the-art Esports gaming arena to the club’s iconic Hillsborough stadium.
The club posted a video of the arena being built, and whilst it looks spectacular, some fans were left enraged.

Many were left wondering how the club has managed to afford this new gaming arena when first-team boss Danny Rohl has been left with little-to-no resources for the transfer window.
But putting those anxieties to bed, journalist Joe Crann explained how this new Esports set up has been in the pipelines for a while, how it will actually bring revenue in to the club, and how it has nothing whatsoever to do with the club’s transfer budget.

Going off Crann’s assessment of the new project, it seems like a totally beneficial thing for the club.
But fans maybe had no insight as to what the arena would actually bring to the club and how it’s been funded, and given what’s been such a poor six months or so in terms of funding and so on, anger may have been the logical response.
Xisco Munoz oversaw a couple of paid signings in the summer in Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama, though they only cost a combined total of around £1.3million, which for a promoted team simply is not enough to compete.
And we’ve seen evidence of that with Wednesday languishing near the foot of the table throughout the first half of the season.
But there’s newfound hope with Dejphon Chansiri putting a strong-looking backroom team behind Rohl, and getting a couple of decent signings over the line so far this month.
Much more is needed, but there’s definite signs of progress behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday.
