Sheffield Wednesday have signed youngster Jay Buchan on a permanent deal.
The Bradford-born 18-year-old has signed his first professional deal with Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Buchan is a product of the Leeds United youth academy but he left the club as a free agent at the end of last season, now making he move to Sheffield Wednesday where he’ll link up with the club’s development sides at first.
A central midfielder, he’ll become the latest name to join Wednesday’s ever-exciting youth ranks, with new boss Xisco Munoz likely to call upon youngsters in the coming season.
Sheffield Wednesday have seemingly placed a focus on recruiting and also retaining youth this summer, with the likes of Jay Glover and Mackenzie Maltby having signed new deals with the club during this pre-season.

Sheffield Wednesday is proving to be quite a fruitful place for younger players, especially so now with the club looking set to call upon some youth players in the upcoming season.
Munoz looks set to be limited in the type of player he can bring in this summer, and with the squad already thin on the ground, players like Buchan could find themselves fast-tracked into the first-team.
There’s some experienced players in Buchan’s position that he can learn from should he be involved with the first-team – captain Barry Bannan to name one – so it’s an exciting move for Buchan who looks like a promising player.
Sheffield Wednesday kick off their 2023/24 campaign with a home game v Southampton at the start of next month, but expect Buchan to be given plenty of time in the development sides before he’s exposed to the first-team.
