Sheffield Wednesday look set to appoint Danny Rohl as their next manager.

It’s been that way for a few days now. But The Star’s Joe Crann revealed last night that Sheffield Wednesday are now in the final stages of the appointment, and that Rohl looks set to be in charge for the next game vs Watford.

It’s a first job in management for Rohl who’s previously worked as an assistant with the German national side, Southampton, and RB Leipzig too, having worked under the likes of Ralph Hasenhuttl and Hansi Flick.

And it’s a tough inaugural gig for the 34-year-old; Wednesday sit in last place of the Championship table and are still winless after 11 games of the 2023/24 Championship season.

But Wednesday fans seem to be quietly confident that Rohl can not only guide the club to an unlikely survival push, but that he can deliver results in the long run too.

Here’s how some Wednesday fans have reacted to the news on X:

@Rob_swfc: Glad with this appointment. A young manager is what we need.people saying no experience. Look at Schumacher at plymouth, ryan lowe, McKenna at ipswich. All young managers without experience as full time managers. Think chansiri could have played a master stroke here

@Westy57002670: I think we still have enough quality in the squad to stay up

@MilesClements1: Very exciting

@1SportsGenius: Give him everything he needs to put a long term plan into motion.

@adam09685794: Wednesday are back

@Placebo_obecalP: Exciting news this.

@BellisTomos: very pleased with this.

@BillyFesterFen: Up the Gegenpressing Owls.
