It’s been more than two weeks since Xisco Munoz was named as Sheffield Wednesday’s new boss, and with the Spaniard’s backroom team now in place, the Owls can start cracking on with their transfer business.
Reece James remains the club’s sole signing of the summer so far, but that move was in place well before Munoz arrived at the club.
Still, there’s a growing number of names being linked with a move to Hillsborough this summer, with one name being consistently mentioned alongside Wednesday – Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
The former Owls loan man was linked before Munoz arrived at the club, but the Owls boss has since been quizzed on his side’s ongoing links to Peacock-Farrell, with Munoz saying:
“Maybe yes, maybe no. He is one of the goalkeepers that we have on our list. I think he could be important for us.”
Another goalkeeper linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday is free agent Axel Werner.
Elsewhere, soon after Munoz’s arrival at Sheffield Wednesday, free agent striker and former Watford man Troy Deeney was linked with a move to Hillsborough.
It’s been claimed that Deeney was in talks with Wednesday over a possible player/coach role, and Munoz said this week on Deeney:
“No, I have contact with Troy but I’ve not spoken with him recently because I’ve been very busy these last few days so it’s the same situation.”
And earlier in the month, Liverpool full-back Luke Chambers was said to be a loan target for Sheffield Wednesday, though nothing has been said about the move since.
Meanwhile, Panutche Camara was linked with a loan move from Ipswich Town to Wednesday, but Ipswich didn’t want to lend him to a Championship rival and so he’s since signed for Charlton Athletic on loan.
And this week, two more names have been linked with potential moves to Sheffield Wednesday in Manchester United’s Charlie Savage and PSG’s Djeidi Gassama.
Reports say that Sheffield Wednesday are among the teams eyeing a deal for United youngster Savage, 20, who spent time on loan at Forest Green Rovers last season.
And in the club’s memorable 1-0 win over Wednesday back in March, then Forest Green boss Duncan Ferguson had this to say on Savage’s performance in that game:
“He’s been fantastic for me. On Sunday [against Sheffield Wednesday], he covered more than 12 kilometres. He was wearing the vest that tracks his distance. That’s incredible. He’s 19-years old, what an engine he’s got. And he’s a good player.”
Gassama meanwhile is said to be a target for Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday, with PSG open to moving on the 19-year-old attacker.
For Sheffield Wednesday then, there’s certainly names in the cross hairs, but not enough players joining as of yet.
