The former Sheffield Wednesday and Glasgow Rangers defender David Bates is on the move again.
Bates, who turned down a new deal at Rangers to join Hamburg two years ago, will spend next season on loan to Cercle Brugge after a frustrating campaign with Wednesday.
The Scotland international posted the following image on Instagram, after the Belgian side announced his arrival:
Bates played just once while on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, in the Owls’ 1-0 League Cup win against Rotherham United, and did not have his deal extended beyond the end of June, despite the lack of alternative options available in his position.
He is the second ex-Wednesday defender to join a new club on Friday, after the Rangers-linked left-back Morgan Fox was unveiled as a Stoke City player.
Cercle Brugge have an option to turn Bates’ deal permanent next summer.
The 23-year-old began his career at Raith Rovers and moved to Rangers on an initial loan deal in 2016.
Among his teammates in the Belgian city will be Kylian Hazard, the younger brother of Real Madrid’s Eden.
