Sheffield Wednesday emerged victorious from Tuesday’s Under-23s derby at Sheffield United, courtesy of goals without reply from Rolando Aarons and Conor Grant.

But how did the Owls players fare, individually, against the Blades?

Here are our player ratings from Bramall Lane:

Joe Wildsmith – 7

Had little to do besides claw away Kean Bryan’s looping header early in the second half.

Ashley Baker – 7

Got forward well, without creating a lot, and was rarely tested defensively.

Dominic Iorfa – 8

Had a comfortable evening at centre-half. He read things well, won his headers and showed good pace where required.

Daniel Pudil – 7

Like Iorfa, he was rarely troubled by United’s Connor Washington. The Czech seemed to enjoy his late cameo on the left – and showed that while his legs may be on their way out his technical ability remains intact.

Achraf Lazaar – 8

Saw plenty of the ball and showed several nice touches – left foot and right. He struck the inside of the post with a 25-yard effort after wandering out to the right flank with Wednesday 2-0 up.

Jack Lee – 7

Deployed in a somewhat unfamiliar defensive midfield role, the centre-back broke things up well, protecting those behind him.

Connor Kirby – 7

Lee’s partner in crime, and certainly the more aggressive of the two. He got stuck into a couple of meaty challenges and on several occasions helped to win back possession high up the pitch.

Conor Grant – 9

Set up Aarons’ goal with a neat through-pass which followed a surging run from just inside the United half, and scored with a tidy finish of his own after being gifted possession just outside the box by the Blades’ Jake Wright.

Jack Stobbs – N/A

Wednesday’s captain limped off early on.

Rolando Aarons – 8

Scored with a sharply-struck left-footed effort from just inside the penalty area and showed plenty of pace and trickery before his withdrawal.

Sam Winnall – 6

Saw his only chance blocked by a United defender and fell on his arse when dangerously placed later on, on a night where it just didn’t happen for him.

Subs

Fraser Preston (for Stobbs) – 6

Came close to opening the scoring with a curling effort from 20-yards, which was pushed away by Simon Moore.

Alex Hunt (for Aarons) – 6

Frederik Nielsen (for Lazaar) – 6
