Sheffield Wednesday host Coventry City in the Championship tomorrow evening, and David Prutton has given his prediction for the game.
Sheffield Wednesday return to Hillsborough this weekend, where they welcome top six hopefuls Coventry City.
The Owls come into this game on the back of a 4-0 defeat away at Southampton last time out; a defeat that left Danny Rohl‘s side four points from safety and still in 22nd place of the Championship table.
Coventry meanwhile are flying high in 6th. It comes after a slow start to the season for Mark Robins’ side, but a 3-1 win over Leicester City last time out leaves Coventry with just one defeat in their last 12 league fixtures.
Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry met at the CBS Arena on Boxing Day, with the Sky Blues winning 2-0.
David Prutton tips Coventry to continue fine form vs Sheffield Wednesday
Giving his prediction for tomorrow’s Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City, Sky Sports pundit and former Owls midfielder Prutton wrote:
“Sheffield Wednesday were flattened at Southampton last week, and it doesn’t get much easier here as in-form Coventry visit Hillsborough. The Owls are four off safety heading into the weekend.
“Coventry took advantage of that Leicester red card to continue their fine form last week. It is just one defeat in 11 now, and they have done just what they did last season – but even a little earlier. They will be confident of another win here.”
Prutton predicts a 2-1 win for Coventry City.
Another tough outing, but Hillsborough is a fortress
Rohl has now overseen 16 league games as Sheffield Wednesday boss. He’s claimed five wins in that time and three of them have come at home.
And whilst Wednesday’s record at Hillsborough could obviously be better, performances at home have been impressive.
Last time at home, Wednesday thumped Cardiff City 4-0 in the FA Cup, following a commanding 3-1 win over top six hopefuls Hull City.
In November they held Leicester City to a 1-1 draw at home before beating Blackburn Rovers, so Coventry City certainly won’t be expecting an easy game away at Wednesday tomorrow.
And if the Owls are to stand any chance of beating the drop this season, they really need to count on their home form.
The last game vs Southampton was a reminder of how far Wednesday have to go in their fight for survival, and the visit of a very in form Coventry side doesn’t make matters easier whatsoever.
But if Wednesday can give Leicester City a good game at Hillsborough, they can certainly give Coventry a tough afternoon.
