Mark Robins has praised Sheffield Wednesday following their defeat to Coventry City yesterday.
Sheffield Wednesday were unable to put an end to Coventry’s spectacular 10-game unbeaten run as Ben Sheaf ran riot at Hillsborough.
The Owls were eager to bounce back from a disappointing 4-0 hammering by Southampton last weekend, however Josh Windass was only able to claim a consolation goal as they fell to a second successive defeat.
Danny Rohl‘s side now sit five points from safety and only three points above the foot of the table, while the Sky Blues were able to creep into the Championship play-off positions.
Sheffield Wednesday did manage eleven shots on home soil, but were unable to convert them into any real chances.
It was a slight improvement on Boxing Day’s meeting though, where The Owls failed to even score in the 2-0 loss. The clash in the West Midlands was a dull affair, with both teams only picking up two shots on target apiece.
While Coventry have now done the double over Sheffield Wednesday, manager Mark Robins did admit that the hosts did look ‘different’ to the team they met less than a month ago.
Speaking to the Sky Blues’ official website, Robins said: “It was a tough game. The way that they set out to play, they try and play on a what is a difficult surface, they they’ve trained on this week, as have we at ours.
“They are set up athletic and they are strong, powerful athletes that are really playing pretty well and are picking up some really good results.
“It’s a different performance from the one we faced only a few weeks ago on Boxing Day. Our support got behind us, as they always do and they helped us over the line.”
What do Sheffield Wednesday need to do now?
It has been hard to find consistency under Danny Rohl, but there is no denying that the performances and results still look a lot more promising than they did four months ago.
Sheffield Wednesday have picked up seven wins in 16 games in all competitions under the German coach, while their only victory under Xisco Munoz had come via a penalty shootout against Stockport County in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
The display against Coventry made it clear that there is still some work to do in the January transfer window, while Bailey Cadamarteri needs some real competition as well.
It seems a big risk to only bring in Ike Ugbo to challenge the teenager, with the Canada international only netting four goals for Cardiff City in the first half of the campaign.
