Sheffield Wednesday fans have all been left baffled by what Barry Bannan did only 20 minutes from kick-off last night.
As per X, supporters were left frustrated when the midfielder missed a straight forward opportunity to put the Owls 1-0 up very early on.
Sheffield Wednesday headed into Tuesday’s game as huge underdogs, having only won one game all season in comparison to Leicester City’s 14 victories.
Danny Rohl’s side found themselves 1-0 down inside half an hour when Abdul Fatawu opened the scoring at Hillsborough.
Leicester dominated with 69% possession and made almost 500 more passes than their hosts, however it was Sheffield Wednesday that had over double the amount of shots on target (7).
Sheffield Wednesday looked set to endure their 14th defeat of the campaign as they entered extra-time still behind, however they were gifted only their seventh point when Jeff Hendrick equalised in the 93rd minute.
While fans will be delighted with such a brilliant result against the Championship’s best team, things could have been very difficult right from the offset if Barry Bannan had taken the lead.
The 33-year-old initially did really well to snatch the ball from the feet of Ricardo Pereira just outside the box, before finding himself one-on-one with the ‘keeper with plenty of net to aim at.
However, Bannan ended up being the mistake of taking the shot with his left foot and put it wide, fumbling the opportunity to put Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 up inside the first minute of the game.
How did Sheffield Wednesday fans react?
Given the huge challenge that Sheffield Wednesday had been given to try and claim something against Leicester City last night, it came as no surprise that supporters were left frustrated by Barry Bannan’s failure to give them a surprise lead.
However, they will undoubtedly have been feeling slightly less bitter about it when Jeff Hendrick claimed a point 90 minutes later.
