Sheffield Wednesday have another crunch match on the agenda this weekend, with the Owls heading to Wales to face Swansea City.
The Swans are yet to win in the league this season, sitting in the bottom three along with Sheffield Wednesday after appointing former Barnsley boss Michael Duff in the summer.
Xisco Munoz’s Wednesday played another struggling side in Middlesbrough at Hillsborough last night, drawing the game 1-1.
And ahead of this weekend, Swansea, Sheffield Wednesday, and Middlesbrough remain the only sides in the Championship without a win to their name, so the trip to Swansea is another must-win for both Wednesday and the Swans.
But Duff has been dealt some fresh player blows ahead of the weekend. Wales Online are reporting that a number of Swansea names could miss the match; Joe Allen is facing weeks on the sidelines with a muscle injury whilst another experience name in Kyle Naughton is also sidelined.
And in last night’s 1-1 draw at QPR, Swansea saw Josh Key and Liam Cullen forced off with injury, making them potential doubts for the weekend, whilst Ollie Cooper was shown a red card and so he’ll be absent through suspension.
A potential boost for the Owls…
In games like last night’s v Boro, and Saturday’s at Swansea, Sheffield Wednesday need every bit of luck they can get, and Swansea being without some key players is certainly a boost for them.
Last night’s game at QPR certainly took its toll on the Swansea players and Duff now faces an uphill battle against a Wednesday side he knows very well.
And Duff will be out for revenge after his Barnsley side lost to Wednesday in the League One play-off final last season.
He’ll know this Wednesday side very well and that gives him a potential edge ahead of Saturday’s game; but without the likes of Allen, Naughton, Cooper, Key, and Cullen, it’ll be very difficult for the Swans.
