Sheffield Wednesday handed a first start to Bailey Cadamarteri tonight as the Owls faced Leicester City.
The youngster was making his maiden appearance in the starting eleven and he didn’t disappoint.
At 18-years-old the future looks extremely bright for Cadamarteri and he will hope for more Wednesday minutes.
Cadamarteri came on for his Championship debut earlier this month against Millwall and looked good on that occasion too.
He’s now awaiting his first strike for the Wednesday first-team and after tonight’s showing he received some praise.
Cadamarteri praised by journalist after defeat
Wednesday did claim a valuable point right at the death here. Jeff Hendrick bagging his first Owls goal with just seconds remaining at Hillsborough in a 1-1 draw.
For Cadamarteri it’s quite scary that he’s only 18 and Wednesday will be hoping that he can really kick on as a player.
It’s a shame that he couldn’t get on the score sheet against Leicester but it wasn’t through a lack of trying.
The Owls’ boss Danny Rohl will have been pleased with his input during his 62 minutes on the pitch.
Joe Crann who covers Wednesday for The Star was very impressed with him and raved about him after he came off.
He said on X: “Bailey Cadamarteri goes off after a very admirable first start for #SWFC. Showed tonight why Wednesday rate him so highly, even without a goal. Can’t help but feel that there’s a lot more to come from him.”
Cadamarteri is currently keeping Lee Gregory out of the squad, with the Owls likely to be relying on the youngster to spearhead the team into the New Year.
Cadamarteri needs help to get first Wednesday goal
With a double-figures haul for the under-21s already this season, Cadamarteri clearly knows where the back of the net is.
The challenge for the player now is to find the net for the first team. In order to do that, he’s going to need some help from his teammates.
One conundrum for Rohl is how he gets Wednesday scoring more goals, with just nine in the Championship this season.
Cadamarteri needs the right players around him if he’s going to thrive and that wasn’t quite the case tonight.
Barry Bannan had a gilt-edged chance after just 25 seconds and on reflection, he should have squared to Cadamarteri.
It will drop for the youngster if he keeps playing through. The Owls won’t come up against opposition like Leicester every week and this was a positive performance.
Cadamarteri is definitely going to form a huge part of the future at Wednesday.
He’s a remarkable young talent and Crann was right to praise him following his latest Hillsborough performance.
This was a great result for the Owls and hopefully, Wednesday can take some positives from this performance against the runaway leaders.
