Sheffield Wednesday look likely to be without one of their key players for tomorrow’s FA Cup replay against Coventry City.
Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to face Coventry City for the fourth time this season, having failed to beat them at the first three attempts.
After back-to-back defeats in the Championship, a late Djeidi Gassama equaliser forced the Sky Blues into a replay in the Midlands.
Sheffield Wednesday will look to bounce back from the weekend’s 4-0 thrashing by Huddersfield Town, but they may have to do so without Josh Windass.
According to The Star journalist Alex Miller, Windass is a ‘big doubt’ for tomorrow’s clash.
On X, he wrote: “Injured at current – will be monitored day-to-day, big doubt for Cov.”
The 30-year-old was left out of the trip to Huddersfield and it is now unclear when he will return to action.
Josh Windass’ absence is a huge loss, with the midfielder having claimed five of his six goal contributions in his last eight appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.
The ‘fantastic‘ star has proven vital under Danny Rohl and The Owls have really struggled without him at times this season, with his injury record proving difficult to handle.
Windass has failed to make the match-day squad on eleven occasions this term, with Sheffield Wednesday claiming only four points in that time – scoring only five goals in the process.
Ike Ugbo took Windass’ spot behind Michael Smith against Huddersfield, though he is yet to make an impact since his loan arrival.
Where will the goals come from?
With Windass being one of Sheffield Wednesday’s only few goal threats so far this season, Danny Rohl will hope deadline day signing Ian Poveda can add some creativity and attacking threat to their lacking frontline.
The Colombia international was highly rated during his academy days with Manchester City, however he has failed to really kick on since joining Leeds United in 2020.
Poveda has made 46 appearances in the Championship in his career, but has only scored three goals and provided four assists in that time.
The Owls need Poveda to find his feet very quickly at Hillsborough, as they don’t have time to wait in their race to avoid relegation.
Danny Rohl‘s side currently sit eight points from safety, having failed to win since New Year’s Day victory over Hull City.
