Danny Rohl has explained why Momo Diaby was left out of Sheffield Wednesday’s win over Bristol City yesterday.
Momo Diaby has spent most of Sheffield Wednesday career on the sidelines since joining on loan from Portimonense in the summer.
The midfielder made only one appearance before missing the next four months of action due to injury.
Diaby made his return in the win over Hull City last month but has since only managed one start, coming in the 2-0 victory against Birmingham City.
The 27-year-old looked to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up, but then missed out on the match-day squad against Leicester and featured for only 10 minutes against Millwall.
Despite his brief cameo at The Den, Diaby returned to the sidelines for yesterday’s clash with Bristol City.
Speaking to The Star, Danny Rohl explained: “It was close, the same as last week against Millwall and we brought him on the pitch.
“I had the feeling that he was not 100 per cent and that’s the reason we decided it made no sense to try this weekend again. It is helpful that we have a normal week to bring these players back.
“I am positive he will be back next week and we are getting to the place that we will almost have our players back for the last weeks. We need that balance for our position and high quality in the training.”
Has Momo Diaby’s loan spell been a success so far?
Sheffield Wednesday fans haven’t really been given the opportunity to see the best of Momo Diaby yet, with the Frenchman managing only 166 minutes in the Championship so far – though he has made three starts from three in the FA Cup.
The midfielder will be hoping to earn himself a permanent move to Hillsborough in the summer, though that could depend on his injury problems going forward.
However, Sheffield Wednesday may be encouraged to snap him up due to their lack of squad depth. The club already face losing practically their entire midfield in the summer, with Will Vaulks, Josh Windass, Barry Bannan and George Byers all out of contract.
Though Bannan is one player who is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal, with the 34-year-old already making his desire to stay at Hillsborough very clear.
