Sheffield Wednesday lost 1-0 at home to Preston North End in the Championship yesterday.

Sheffield Wednesday have now lost their opening three games of the 2023/24 Championship season.

Xisco Munoz’s side are the only ones in the league without a point on the board, having conceded seven goals in their opening three games as well.

It comes after a turbulent summer at Hillsborough which saw Darren Moore depart the club out of the blue, and then owner Dejphon Chansiri take time to find a successor.

But there was improvements in yesterday’s performance. The Owls were very poor at Hull City last weekend but as Munoz gets more time with the players, and the new players continue to settle in, Wednesday will only get better.

And having his say on the performance yesterday, The Star reporter Joe Crann tweeted:

Progress, but slow progress…

Sheffield Wednesday were bound to start this season slowly. They had a subdued start to the summer transfer window and bringing in so many players late on; it was always going to take a while for the team to come together.

But yesterday, there were definite signs that there is some coming together among the players.

Munoz has some new ideas and he’s steadily implementing them. Preston are a good team who’ve been playing under their manager for a while now, so it promised to be a difficult game for the Owls.

Up next for Wednesday is a trip to Cardiff City. It’s another tough, but potentially winnable game for the Owls, who quickly need to start putting some points on the board.
