Journalist Alan Nixon has dropped his prediction ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s meeting with Swansea City.
Sheffield Wednesday return to action tomorrow and will kick off the most important stage of their campaign.
The Owls have just eight games to save their Championship status, while only a single point and their concerning goal difference sits between them and safety.
Danny Rohl‘s side do have the second-worst goal difference in the league, but just one win this week could potentially take them up to 20th place.
It all depends which Sheffield Wednesday turn up though, having endured back-to-back defeats before the international break, but winning four consecutive matches before that.
Meanwhile, Swansea had had a mixed bag of results, winning four of their last eight outings, as well as a derby day victory last time out.
The Owls haven’t beaten the Welsh outfit since February 2019, while that was their only win since 1984.
Rohl won’t be thinking about their previous record though, while journalist Alan Nixon has predicted a 2-1 win for the hosts.
He wrote on X: “Wednesday have to win this one really. 2-1.”
It is definitely a must-win for Swansea City, though also doesn’t necessarily mean they are doomed if they don’t win it either.
Where do Sheffield Wednesday stand if they beat Swansea City?
A confident performance and three points in their pocket could set them up for a brilliant final run-in, and I honestly think if they win this then they will stay up.
A draw wouldn’t be the end of the world as I can still see them picking up points against any of their final seven opponents, but losing could really do damage to the morale in the team.
While it doesn’t determine their safety or not, this game is going to influence the next month or so of Championship football. It is an unbelievably important tie, and it is definitely a winnable one.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield face Coventry, Plymouth travel to Norwich, Stoke take on Hull and QPR host Birmingham.
It is a really tough afternoon for a majority of their relegation rivals, while QPR v Birmingham is a huge game for all concerned, with the pair both sat within two points of Sheffield Wednesday.
The bottom seven teams have a collective nine wins between them in the last five match-days – three off which come from the Owls. Their better recent form should surely guide them to safety.
