Sheffield Wednesday didn’t give their worst performance of the season in last night’s 1-0 defeat at West Brom. But attacking-wise, it was another slog.
Sheffield Wednesday created very little at The Hawthorns. West Brom were in total control could easily have scored more, but for a fairly decent defensive display from the Owls.
It wasn’t amazing, but Wednesday did just about enough to keep the scoreline at 1-0, with one man emerging from the game with some credit; Di’Shon Bernard.
The Jamaican international joined on a free transfer in the summer and has been a regular starter under Xisco Munoz, albeit with some mixed performances along the way.
But he’s certainly one of the more consistent players in the side, and the 22-year-old former Manchester United man was arguably Wednesday’s Man of the Match last night.
Yorkshire Live reporter Ricky Charlesworth rated Bernard’s performance a 6/10, also writing of Bernard’s night:
“Racked up double figures for clearances, tackles and interceptions. Stood up well, especially after the break, to constant pressure from the hosts.”
A shining light for Wednesday…
Bernard looks like a decent signing. He’s a likeable character and he’s still a very young player too, so he could be a good player for Wednesday for some time to come.
Despite that, a 6/10 performance simply can’t be Wednesday’s best.
It’s a very sorry time for the club and it’s starting to look like Wednesday won’t win a game of football at all this season.
Something needs to give, but what, and when, remains to be seen.
Sheffield Wednesday have a real crunch match coming up against Huddersfield Town this weekend before going into the international break.
And it could yet be a busy two-week period for the Owls.
