The Charlton Athletic striker Lyle Taylor made a positive impression on some Sheffield Wednesday fans at Hillsborough this week.
Taylor, who had a spell at Wednesday’s city rivals Sheffield United earlier in his career, was Charlton’s biggest threat in a 1-0 win for the Owls which was secured by Steven Fletcher’s stoppage-time header.
Were it not for Tom Lees’ last-ditch block or had the Leppings Lane end crossbar been an inch or two higher, then the Addicks’ top scorer might have stolen the headlines.
But the following Wednesday supporters were able to recognise Taylor’s talent nonetheless…
Charlton got what they deserved. Nothing. Only things they were good at were time wasting/harassing inept referee/sly fouls. Felt sorry for Lyle Taylor who was a one man team. Shame Owls dominance only resulted in one goal https://t.co/KoRHEeNuCq

Keeper made a couple of solid saves for your, ref was poor for both sides, that Lyle Taylor looked decent at times.

If you get relegated, can we have Lyle Taylor on the cheap please? https://t.co/5LFObEA4nh

Still wouldn’t mind a crack at signing that Taylor off Charlton again in the summer though if we can shift Winnall, Dave & Rhodes off the books. #swfc

Sheffield Wednesday were one of several clubs credited with an interest in Taylor ahead of the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old later withdrew from contract talks with Charlton and, should an agreement remain unstruck come the summer, then the London club will lose him for nothing.
With several of their own strikers in similar boats – the deals of Connor Wickham, Alessio da Cruz, Fernando Forestieri, Atdhe Nuhiu, Sam Winnall and Fletcher are all due to expire at the end of this season – the above Owls fans could yet get their wish.
