Some Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media have been ruing the decision to sell Lucas Joao to Reading after he scored against them on Saturday.
Not a single Wednesday player covered themselves in glory on Saturday afternoon, and while there were a number of below-par performances to unpack, the one player fans were discussing above all others.
Indeed, social media was rife with supporters discussing the club’s decision to sell Joao back in 2019.
Letting Joao go seemed like a good idea at the time as he fetched a £5m fee, which seemed to be a good price for a striker who’d only scored 10 league goals the season before.
However, he’s exploded into form this season, netting 18 Championship goals already, and inevitably, he scored against his former club.
The sale of Joao really does sum up all of the problems Wednesday have had in terms of recruitment in recent years, and it’s a decision from Chansiri that we may well be reflecting on if the Owls end up in League One.
Here’s what the Hillsborough faithful have been saying on social media…

Before the season started, I wrote that I might be the only Wednesday fan that missed Lucas Joao. I believe that @owlsamericas mocked me for this. It would be so nice if he was still on #swfc this season.
