Wigan Athletic fans are reacting on Twitter to the news that one of their players has signed for Sheffield Wednesday.
Wednesday announced the free transfer capture of Chey Dunkley on Thursday evening.
Dunkley’s Wigan deal had expired at the end of last season, which ended in the Latics’ relegation from the Championship after unexpectedly entering administration.
🦉 Happy with this one Owls? #swfc

And the centre-back is one of several to have parted ways with Wigan in the wake of that.
But in the eyes of many of a Latics persuasion, it is the loss of Dunkley that hurts the most so far.

All the best Chey, thanks for everything. Seen you develop into a fine centre half these past few years. Need a few strikers now 😜.

Very… Solid defender, would be interesting to see where we would have finished had he not broken his leg in march! Will do well at Wednesday!

I’m a big fan of Dunkley. Gave his all for us. For #swfc fans: he’s strong, good in the air and a serious goal threat from set pieces. Sometimes gets caught out positionally and has a mistake in him. Pair him with someone with a bit of experience and he’ll be great for you 👍🏻

Dunkley strengthens an area in which Wednesday were left short towards the end of last season, with full-back Liam Palmer often used as part of a three-man central defence.
Barring any departures, the Wolverhampton native will compete with Dominic Iorfa, Tom Lees, Julian Borner and Joost van Aken, as well as Palmer, at Wednesday this coming campaign.

The Owls have also been linked with a fresh move for the Vitoria Guimaraes centre-back Frederico Venancio, who spent a season on loan at Hillsborough earlier in his career.
