Some Sheffield Wednesday supporters are urging Garry Monk to start Fernando Forestieri against Birmingham City.

Forestieri has only started once for Wednesday in the Championship this season, but won a penalty that day (against QPR in August) and scored on his most recent outing from the bench (against Swansea City earlier this month).

Nevertheless, the Argentine forward remained an unused sub as the Owls were beaten 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

And enough is enough for the following Sheffield Wednesday fans, among whom conspiracy theories – ranging from secret contract clauses to a possible January sale – are rife…

Forestieri top-scored in each of his first two seasons at Sheffield Wednesday, to whom he moved in a £3 million deal from Watford four-and-a-half years ago.

Since then, the 29-year-old has scored 39 goals and assisted 17 in 123 games for the Owls.

Of those strikes, 24 have arrived at Hillsborough, where Wednesday host Monk’s old side Birmingham in two days’ time.
