Some Sheffield Wednesday fans are wondering whether or not the Owls have recalled their loaned-out left-back Matt Penney.

Penney was due to spend the full campaign in the German second division with St Pauli.

But the Wednesday academy product was pictured with his Owls teammate, Cameron Dawson, and coach, Lee Bullen, at St Luke’s Hospice on Monday.

And this is what the Sheffield Wednesday faithful have been saying on Twitter…

Penney has played eight times for St Pauli, who are managed by his former Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay.

However, an injury has kept him out of action since early November.

St Pauli recently announced that Penney had returned to training, although it is unclear whether or not he will be fit for the club’s final two fixtures ahead of the winter break.

Bullen revealed earlier in the campaign that Sheffield Wednesday have an option to bring the 21-year-old back to Hillsborough in January.

However, if Penney has indeed returned to Wednesday early, FIFA rules prevent him from playing for Garry Monk’s side until New Year’s day.

Penney is one of several Owls players whose contracts expire at the end of the campaign.
