Some Sheffield Wednesday fans are making the same, mischievous, demand to Newcastle United as the two clubs continue to quarrel over Steve Bruce’s move from Hillsborough to St James’ Park.
It is almost a week since Newcastle announced Bruce’s arrival as manager, only for the Owls to express their surprise, claiming that ‘outstanding legal issues’ were still to be resolved.
The Mirror later reported that the Sheffield Wednesday chairman, Dejphon Chansiri, had offered to drop his threat of legal action if Newcastle agreed to loan two of their players, Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar, back to Hillsborough.
But some of an Owls persuasion – whose side have since announced that they have reported the Magpies to the Premier League – have another player in mind.
Newcastle’s Dwight Gayle has scored 59 goals in 100 Championship games for the Magpies, West Bromwich Albion and Peterborough United.
But Gayle could once again find opportunities scarce at St James’ Park, where the Brazilian striker, Joelinton, has just arrived in a club-record deal from Hoffenheim.
Sheffield Wednesday are certainly not desperate for bodies at centre-forward, while the Englishman’s likely transfer fee and wages would surely rule out any Owls move.
