The conspiracy theorists are out in force over news that Cameron Dawson will start for Sheffield Wednesday against Birmingham City – ahead of Keiren Westwood.
Westwood conceded the penalty from which West Bromwich Albion scored their late winner against Wednesday on Saturday.
And it was not the first time in recent weeks that the experienced goalkeeper was, arguably, at fault for an Owls concession.
Some Sheffield Wednesday supporters had therefore called for Westwood to be dropped against Birmingham.
And speaking at his pre-game press conference on Tuesday, their manager, Monk, confirmed that the Irishman will miss the game – albeit with a shoulder injury instead.
“Cameron is going to be playing,” said the 40-year-old. “Keiren has got a bit of an injury as well but it would have been a decision I would have to make anyway. But Cameron will be playing on Wednesday.”
But the following Wednesday supporters just aren’t buying it…

I swear no other clubs tell as many lies as we do………

Of course Westwood is genuinely injured! Its absolutely legit. Who would question it? He never misses rainy midweek games where we are under the cosh. Declaring him unfit the day before saves him the bother of all that last minute pulling up lame in the warm up business. #SWFC

Google translate this for me.

Worth adding that he said he would’ve made the change anyway (probably the right decision) but I’m sceptical the ‘injury’ would’ve kept Westwood out if he hadn’t had that rush of blood on Saturday. #swfc

No fresh injury worries. Then says Westwood’s got an injury 🤔

Slight shoulder injury?? Is that when he came out and wiped out their player for the penalty??🙄🤔

Dropped then. About time to many mistakes lately

Not as much coverage on the Westwood dropping cos everyone’s latched onto this part of his press conference, intelligently done if you ask me #swfc

Westwood was one of the players exiled by the former Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay at the start of last season, but was restored in place of Dawson after the Dutchman’s sacking in December.
Until now, the 35-year-old had been almost universally popular with the Wednesday faithful, who have voted him their player of the season twice since he joined the club in 2014.
