Some Blackburn Rovers supporters could not wait for Christian Walton – the rumoured Garry Monk target – to return to Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to Football Insider, Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing a January move for the Brighton goalkeeper and will keep close tabs on his situation over the coming weeks.

Walton has only recently recovered from an injury he suffered in pre-season.

But before then he was playing regular Championship football for Blackburn – and previously, Wigan Athletic.

And, despite having appeared in all 36 of Rovers’ fixtures last season, helping Tony Mowbray’s side to an 11th-placed finish, it seems he wasn’t universally popular with the Ewood Park faithful.

This is what those of a Blackburn persuasion have had to say about the potential Wednesday recruit in recent months…

Sheffield Wednesday’s goalkeeping situation is again under scrutiny after four straight defeats for the Owls.

Cameron Dawson started the season as Wednesday’s number one but was dropped on Saturday in favour of Joe Wildsmith.

Wildsmith appeared to do little wrong on, despite the Owls’ defeat to Wycombe.

But some fans are still irked by the treatment of Keiren Westwood, the long-serving former Ireland international who has been exiled from first-team affairs by Monk.

Westwood, a two-time player of the year at Hillsborough, was linked with a move to Blackburn in the summer transfer window.

Walton, 24, has only played four times for Brighton since his 2013 move from Plymouth Argyle.
