Some Sheffield Wednesday fans are praying that Massimo Luongo will return against Luton Town.
Luongo has failed to appear since Wednesday’s 5-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers last month, when he was wrongly sent off.
But despite a successful appeal, injury has robbed the Owls of the Australian’s services for four successive league and cup matches.
Wednesday have won just one of those games – the only one in which their other combative midfielder Sam Hutchinson has featured.
And with Hutchinson’s absence officially unexplained, the following Wednesday fans are placing all of their eggs in Luongo’s basket as they seek a return to winning ways at Kenilworth Road.

Can Luongo be fit yet so we actually have a midfielder? #swfc

Me being 75% fit is better than Joey playing hopefully luongo and fox both fit

#swfc I think we have the players to get into the playoffs, but simply put Bannan plus one alone in midfield DOES NOT WORK – 4-3-3 might work but we need Luongo back

Problem with Pelupessey playing with Bannan is exactly the same as when Hutchinson plays – neither are good enough to provide cover for the defence, Bannan then ends up doing their job as well & our midfield is then non-existent. Need to get Luongo back asap #swfc

Agree the sooner Luongo is fit the better Monk needs to put Hutch in ahead of Pelupessy some graft and grit thought Forestieri tried today at least he looked sharp

You’re right about Pelupessy. He’s means well & tries hard but he’s just not good enough!! Hopefully Luongo will be back fit soon

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Barnsley, Garry Monk said Luongo was ’50-50′ to be fit for Oakwell.
The Sheffield Wednesday manager made an identical claim about Morgan Fox, but the left-back was again absent last time out, along with the central midfielder Kieran Lee.
Wednesday can climb four places to eighth if they win at Luton, who prop up the table and are 10 points adrift of safety.
The Owls have failed to beat either of the three teams directly above Luton – Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and Stoke City – since Christmas.
