'Incoming': Some fans are tipping former Owls boss for Sunderland

Supporters of Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United and a handful of others are tipping Garry Monk to be Sunderland’s next manager.

Monk was sacked by Wednesday at the start of this month – having suffered the same fate at Birmingham City and Middlesbrough after leaving Leeds in 2017.

Wednesday were second-from-bottom at the time of the 41-year-old’s sacking, 14 months after his Hillsborough reign began.

But even if the Owls had not been handed a six-point deduction – halved from 12 – they would have been only three places higher in the table.

And the worry for Monk now is that his options in Championship management have been exhausted.

But a stint in League One with Sunderland may not be off the cards, according to the following fans on Twitter, after the Mackems relieved Phil Parkinson of his duties on Sunday…

Just as he was at Middlesbrough, Monk was succeeded as Wednesday manager by the experienced Tony Pulis.

The former is not currently among the favourites for the Sunderland job, a list topped by the ex-Mackems boss and one-time Leeds assistant Gus Poyet.

Would the former Wednesday and Leeds manager be a good appointment by Sunderland?
