Some Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media are absolutely seething after Jack Marriott didn’t win the club’s Player of the Year award.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Now, nobody in their right mind is suggesting that Marriott deserves to be the club’s Player of the Year, but Marriott was voted in by thousands of fans as something of a protest vote, and supporters believe that he should have won.

Unfortuantely, Wednesday haven’t released the full facts and figures of the voting, and fans feel that the vote has been skewed somewhere down the line.

Judging by the number of supporters who were calling for Marriott to win the Player of the Year on Twitter, we’re inclined to agree that the results of this vote may be a bit fishy.

The striker of course shouldn’t be anywhere near this award, he’s hardly played and he’s not scored a single goal, but if we’re being honest, no player involved this season truly deserves to be crowned Player of the Year.

The idea of voting Marriott as a protest vote gathered a lot of momentum on social media and it would have acted as a brilliant sign of the complete and utter contempt the fanbase are feeling towards the club at the moment.

Sadly, Barry Bannan won the award, but was he fairly voted in? Or did the club fiddle with the results to not be shown up by a ridiculous voting campaign? We may never find out.

Here’s what Wednesday fans have been saying about the Player of the Year announcement on social media…
