Sheffield Wednesday lost 1-0 away at Bristol City in the Championship yesterday, with the Owls playing most of the game with 10 men.
Sheffield Wednesday headed to Ashton Gate where they went in search of a second-straight win after victory over rivals Rotherham United last weekend.
And the Owls started well. But Barry Bannan’s red card in the first half changed the complexity of the game and the Robins eventually won 1-0.
It was a controversial red card and if it hadn’t had been given, Wednesday may well have taken something from the game with several decent performances from individuals.
And one who impressed was Will Vaulks; the midfielder came on at half-time and went on to make three key passes, making 20 out of 23 passes (87% success), with two clearances and a tackle to his name as well (per SofaScore).
Vaulks is yet to stat a game under Rohl, but the 30-year-old has now made eight appearances in the Championship this season.
Should Vaulks for Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday return to Hillsborough next weekend where they host Millwall.
It’s another tough game for the Owls and the Bristol City performance gives Rohl yet more food for thought as he tries to get points on the board.
And we’ve definitely sene improvements under the German who will be getting a better idea of his players with every passing week.
Vaulks has come of the bench in every game so far, playing more minutes every time, and his performance yesterday was perhaps his best under the new boss.
He adds a lot of energy and passing quality to the midfield and with Bannan suspended for the next outing, Vaulks may well be the best option to come in and replace the Owls skipper for this one.
