Sheffield Wednesday’s play-off hopes could be dealt a blow tomorrow – without them even playing.
A winding-up petition issued to Bolton Wanderers by HM Revenue & Customs is due to be heard on Wednesday.
And the Owls’ Championship rivals face going out of business if a buyer for the club cannot be found before then.

Should that indeed happen, it is claimed league rules would see Bolton’s results from this season expunged.

And that could hit Wednesday harder than most, with the Owls having taken maximum points from their two games against the Trotters.
None of the sides currently occupying spots five to 11 in the Championship would lose as many as that, while Derby’s points tally would remain the same having lost their only encounter with Bolton so far.

Unlikely event of Bolton going out of business on Weds would, by league rules, lead to their Championship results being expunged. Would be far worse on #SWFC in playoff hunt. #dcfc the big winners.
Boro -3 points
Villa -3
Preston -4
Derby -0
Bristol C -4
Sheff Wed -6
Forest -4— Dale Johnson (@DaleJohnsonESPN) 19 March 2019
Forest is -3, rather than -4. Looked down the wrong line of the results grid…… https://t.co/coTwFYEtr4
